HOW TO MIX
THE BASICS
Not just any Whiskey, but a genuine Jim Beam
It might be true for some whiskeys that it makes no difference how you mix them or what you mix them with – but with JIM BEAM, there are certain rules you should follow. For example, take the question of whether the drink should be shaken, stirred, or blended. Only when a mixed drink is properly prepared can the JIM BEAM within achieve its full taste potential. Here are the most important basic rules that you should stick to when using your cocktail shaker:
LAYERING
Some cocktails are meant to be poured into the glass they are served in layer by layer. Each ingredient is added separately. Layering drinks using the flat end of a bar spoon helps certain ingredients to form an attractive pattern on the outside of the glass.
STIRRING
Drinks are stirred if they only contain spirits. Only stir the cocktail until all the ingredients have been mixed. Stirring for too long can melt the ice, which has an effect on the flavor of the drink. It is best to use ice cubes rather than any other type of ice.
SHAKING
Fill the cocktail shaker half with ice cubes and add all the other ingredients. It is important to put the lid firmly on the shaker. Shake vigorously and pour the chilled drink in equal measures into each glass. Never shake drinks containing soda!
BLENDING
Some drinks taste best when they are blended with an electric mixer. Only blend until the mixture has an even consistency and only use crushed ice. However, take care not to add too much ice, otherwise the cocktail could become too diluted. Do not blend drinks unless the recipe tells you to do so.
IMPORTANT: MEASURES
In cocktail recipes, all ingredients are given in “parts.” One part is the same as a standard measure. So take out your cocktail shaker now and get experimenting – JIM BEAM wishes you lots of fun mixing drinks!
